"EL Miklós Hagyó: I am very tired and I am very happy"

After a long walk of Thirty-five days, thought the path of El Camino, Mr.Hagyó Budapest Deputy Mayor is back home.

Answering the question: would he redo his trip he said that he couldn’t answer at the moment, he would needa good night’s sleep before he could answer.

Instead of the well-dressed, well-groomed politician, a smiley cheerful gentleman came through the Ferihegy airport gate at around five thirty pm. First his family jumps in his arms as this is usually the case and simultaneously, he answered good willingly to the reporters’ questions as a good mannered politician should.

-I'm very tired but very happy and tomorrow I will be back at work, these were the first words of Mr. Hagyó spoke to the outside world. Shortly after, he reached into his packsack and retrieved a few small gifts. He distributed a few El Caminos insignia to his family and then started telling stories.

As one could see, he was not very talkative and did not conceal the fact that he could not express himself with words. He arrived to his destination Twenty-four hours earlier than planned, that is: the westernmost point of Spain, Finisterraba. After a good night's sleep, he woke up to the fact that he did not have to start walking again, actually yes but not that way, not there, and not for the same reasons, as in the preceding 34 days.

-Everything is still very weird, I still don’t know whether I would redo it again, "he said quietly, as quietly as one could say in a bustling airport terminal.

One thing is certain, he will be walking to work tomorrow, to the deputy Mayer municipal office and one thing is certain he will not be shaving till the week end. He probably won’t be able to wear a proper pair of shoes either.

- The Deputy Mayer was explaining “There is a muscle in my leg I didn’t even know about, but when I discovered it existed, it was like walking on ember”, he said, as he was pressing against his packsack and holding hands with his family. One could see Blood and water blisters on his feet yet sparkling eyes from fatigue and something completely new in his soul, making life different then from it was previously, before “THE PATH”.

His pilgrimage, as he explained on the night of his arrival, spoke of friendship. He befriended travelers arriving from all parts of the world looking to recharge themselves and created friendship bonds that only people taking the road through EL CAMINO can understand.
